Ever since I was 13 and made the cross-country running team at my high school I've dreamed of running a marathon...
Well ... 13 years later I'ma gonna do it! I just registered for the Las Vegas Marathon this December, and here's the catch: the race is ON my 26th birthday. So I'm going to run 26.2 miles on my 26th birthday. Isn't that the coolest thing ever?!?
I've got 70 days to go. I'm already running 5-8 miles a day, so I can just pick up from here and make sure I follow a schedule to increase my endurance. I have to say that every time I start a run, I kind of get this yucky feeling like, "Ugh, this is going to be hard ..." and then, about a mile into it I'm like, "Hey, this is actually fun and easy!" Amazing what a difference it makes to be carrying less weight around!
Anyways, I wanted to drop a line and say YAHOO - I'm so ready for this!

Very Nice - you are a total inspiration!
go for it! After reading your commitment since starting the FORM & FIXX, portion control etc., you are going to do this. Just listen to your body and don't try to run thru an injury in case that happens during your training leading up to the marathon. Better to stop, walk, let it heal, come back the next day.
Hey thanks, story teller! I did a long run yesterday and my brother-in-law had me use a roller to "roll out" my muscles after the run. I was so tight, and the rolling was SO painful ... that I threw up! Too much pain and too many toxins released in a tired body!
So, good advice for me to take it easy! I need to learn that in general *blush*
Hi Holly Sue, I just read your story and am in the same situation. I just signed up to run 26 miles on my 26th birthday!!! I live in CA and found one in Greensboro,NC, so I will be packing my bags that weekend and flying back east:) I was thinking to make a shirt or something that has a list of 26 things that I am grateful for, or one memory for each year of my life, or one memory at that age in my life. Let me know what you think, who knows maybe we can start a fun little trend here:)
